An excellent opportunity for a Financial Controller to join a leading international logistics group of companies offering shipping solutions. The chosen person will be reporting directly to the General Manager, based in Malta and also communicating regularly with the team abroad. What is expected of you?
- Handle the approval of bank transactions in the online banking systems
- Manage the preparation of the annual corporate and deferred tax calculations, whilst checking the annual corporate tax returns prepared by the tax consultants, and reconciling the tax accounts
- File the required returns to the various authorities
- Oversee and follow up relevant tax issues and any Advance Revenue Rulings with the tax consultants
- Analyse, calculate and allocate dividends from the respective tax accounts and propose adequate dividend distributions in board meetings to the board of directors/shareholders as and when necessary
- Provide assistance to the General Manager in any designated or non-routine tasks
- Conduct reviews and finalise annual budgets and the comments to the budgets
- Oversee and update any legal contracts, resolutions, or Power of Attorneys as and when required
- Liaise with Legal and Treasury department to obtain documentation required for KYC procedures and certify any documents
- Liaise with external auditors to ensure that any major issues or audit adjustments are properly handled
- Manage the preparation of reports as requested by Group Controlling and Accounting department
- Prepare the annual statutory accounts
- Maintain a local processes and procedures manual
- Ensure the smooth and efficient functioning of the Finance & Accounting team
- Manage the day to day activities of the Finance & Accounting team to ensure a proper interaction and flow of information with other departments
- Ensure periodic financial reports are accurately prepared and distributed on time and to the relevant parties
- Conduct reviews and analyse, from time to time the financial operations of the companies; suggesting corrective action to the GM when required
- Review the accounting systems and control environment, implement corrective procedures for non-conformance and initiate proposals for system/process improvement
- Guide and motivate department personnel and promote commitment to quality of operations and service
- Ensure that relevant and reliable financial information is available in a timely order to enable company decisions to be made
- Assist the GM in the completion of the local business plan in-line with group strategy
- Work on other Ad hoc analysis / tasks
What are you expected to bring?
- A qualified Accountant with a minimum of 5 years’ experience
- A minimum of 4 years’ experience in a managerial role
- Experience working with foreign owned group of companies will be considered an asset
- Excellent knowledge and understanding of IFRS and MS Excel
- Have strong leadership and analytical skills
- Excellent in English both verbal and written
- An analytical and capable of transferring theoretical knowledge into practice
